The Beatles - Now And Then
The Beatles - Now And Then
Technically the song is very interesting. Isolation of vocals from a 1970s cassette. They don't say what brand cassette; in the mini doc it looks like an unmarked one, in the video they ceremoniously press play on a 1980s style TDK D90. Apparently the original tape featured a loud 60Hz mains hum. Had Lennon recorded this demo in the UK, it would've been a 50Hz hum! Musically the song is pretty good. Four listens has improved my opinion, not worsened it. The b-side, a remix of Love Me Do, is no good at all. Giles Martin 'remixed it' but it sounds awful, as though he just applied an echo. Once again, just because your dad did a thing doesn't mean you should too.
