Notes
This is where I add random pieces of information relating to the game. Submissions are more than welcome, and cheers for Steve to adding more.
Ideas
Here is a list of additions or features I would like added to the game:
- Huge battleship shell splashes should help reduce or extinguish fires.
- Radar should be temporarily disabled by glancing shots (see Battle of the North Cape).
- If you run aground, you should flood.
- If you are overpenned, you should flood.
- An open water map please!
- Manual secondary and AA targeting, possibly by a second player.
- Ability to design own maps.
- Ability to design own camos.
- A 'total planes shot down' statistic.
- The ability to 'turn off' your own spotting of an enemy ship.
- Extra smoke created during engine boost use should increase ship visibility/detection.
- Ability to detect a ship from its wake, but manually.
- Smoke trails from funnels are too small in general.
- Ability to pick up survivors from all ships (and earn ribbons).
- Shells fired and fuel used could marginally reduce ship weight and therefore increase speed.
- Limited ammo?
- Standard mode for advanced and increased realism, Arcade for the opposite.
- When bots earn medals (in Arcade), why not make them permanent bots we can all keep track of?
- A date displaying when each ship was acquired.
- A battle mode in which it is player versus AI, teamed up with AI (no other humans).
- Historical Scenarios! More player versus environment fun, please. -See 'War Tales' mode
- Legendary Mod perks last three battles after activation.
- Secondary and AA guns should sound louder.
- Ability to use main battery guns against air targets.
- Ability to set a default initial shell type selection.
- Fix various sound bugs, such as missing sonar and distant noise.
- More realistic smoke from funnels and guns.
- Map sector labelling. -Implemented
- Every 50 battles with the same commander grants one personal commendation.
- Ability to use British commanders on Commonwealth ships.
- No more 'pan' grouping. Each nation should get its own tech tree line and nation flag.
- After 1,000 battles, the ability to upgrade tech tree ships so they are 'premium'.
- Information on how many wins needed until the next winrate percentage increase.
- Ability to see your Fleet Mates' ships beside you in port, when ready for battle.
- Every player (both teams) should be able to hear ships' horns.
- Winrate by map.
- Click on a medal to see which ships you won it in, and when.
- Frag camos should display total kills for the mode you are playing in.
- The radio direction location semicircle should include degree readout.
- Ability to select a sector for secondary batteries to fire at.
- Ships at anchor should actually be at anchor.
- The voice notification in battle should specify witch turrent is disabled.
- The 'hull guard' structures which protect the screws are visual only, and melt into another ship on collision.
- Limits on fuel use to encourage more economical use of speed controls.
- As more planes are shot down, pilot quality reduces.
- Being able to hear distant guns.
- Carrier plane type should not be detectable until they fire.
- Enemy team and ship identification should not be known until they are spotted.
- There is a speed bug which has affected me (positively) twice. Once in Arcade, and once in Standard. Your ship will sometimes go much faster than its design speed for no apparent reason.
- There could Bridge hits, similar to how there are Citadel hits (another idea from Steve).
- Ability to assign the consumable button location.
- Ability to see statistics (such as wins and losses) by commander.
- Ability to pause smoke - at least with crawling ones.
Since battles often contain more than one tier (and sometimes three), why even bother? Just match ships based on rating and abandon the tier system altogether. It only makes sense if battles only ever contain a single tier.
Squids
Five kills in a Standard Battle is officially known as Unleashing the Kraken, or more informally, a 'Kraken'. Unofficially, when I achieve three kills in a Standard Battle, I call it a Squid. If I get four kills, it's a Fat Squid or a Baby Kraken: a Krakenlette. Six kills is a Chubby Kraken, seven is a Fat one; eight is Obese and nine kills is the coveted Tumblr Kraken! Has it ever been done?
Trigger Fault?
I play on PS5. Every so often when my guns are fully loaded the trigger simply will not fire them, even on numerous attempts. It takes a few seconds for this fault to rectify itself. It is very frustrating especially when you miss vital shots.
Screw propeller animation
A minor detail: even when your ship is stationary before the battle commences you can still see the screws spinning happily away. They should alter the revolution speed with the actual engine setting.
Ribbons
If a battle is won and there is nothing to do but travel, why not total up all your ribbons in your head? It's a fun little game of addition I like to play. I would be interested to see Total Ribbons Earned as a statistic alongside the Medals page, and displayed for each ship.
Range Clock
Ever wondered what those clocks on older battleships are? They're Vickers range clocks and they were used to calculate the range of enemy ships and make it easily legible to ships in the battle line following behind. In practice they probably were of very little use and in this game they are useless. Here is another example of a range clock, fitted to Japanese destroyer Kamikaze.
Whale Rocks
Doesn't this scenery look like a whale?
